I have a Finished Quilt Top - Flimsy

Next bit, a little hand quilting

Not going to happen!

I had high hopes of getting this quilted in 2012 so that was the date I embroidered but I've realized there is really no way that is going to happen.  :)

Last night - I unsewed '2012' and made it 2013.  I'll work on getting the back prepared later this month and be ready to dive into the quilting next year.

More Cutting this Week for Me

I'm trying to do a little each week, so this week I got cutting again. There are loads of little squares for shoo fly blocks, waiting patiently to be stitched together.

This is where I am at with cutting the 92 2inch squares from 23 different fabrics for the centre border. I have 17 fabric sets left to cut.
And my cutting and fabric piles at the end of this weekend's cutting. I now have the 17 sets of 2inch blocks mentioned above to cut and the shoo-fly block pieces for Block 13. Then all my cutting is completed.
Maybe next week something will touch the sewing machine :D

Thank you for all the kind comments last week, they really helped to keep me motivated!

Bringing up the Rear...

I'm not sure how many of you are still out there who as far behind the frontrunners as I am :)
I have been very inspired again recently by attending the Adelaide Craft and Quilt Show; receiving my copies of issue 7 and issue 8 from Perri and reading the latest posts from Sharon, Sylvia and Sybil.

I had to revisit things to see just where I was up to so...
Blocks 1, 2, 3 are done, I have to add the shoofly blocks to blocks 4,5 and 9 but the stitchery is done - Oh and I haven't touched the little heart applique's yet.

But I did a lot of cutting and got my zip lock bags for each block to go from this

To this...

I think that I will do all the cutting first now that I have all the issues then get back to piecing and stitching and eventually try the applique!
Anyone else out there?

I have started the last panel.

I am on the home stretch and it feels
so good to be so close to a finish.

Final border section is finished

I went off on a tangent for my last border section!  You can read more about it on my blog at
http://quiltingismything.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/vignette-aka-fabric-vomit-my-way/

I've spent the week sewing the last section to the first 12 blocks and doing the joining embroidery work.  It won't be long before I start thinking about how I'm going to quilt it.

A bit more progress

Finally, some stitching progress. I did read a lot on holidays but did enjoy some stitching too. I was trying to keep up with my many UFOs! I stitched another set of borders for one of the lower corner blocks of Vignette.

I bought my copy of the latest Vignette magazine and it is lovely. There was even a picture of our table of ladies at Urban stitching in July!

Another version of the quilt

This version is being made by one of the gals in my small quilt group.  She's using her scrap bin for fabric selections.  She made slight modifications to the center blocks.

I have just had a message from Leanne saying that there is a slight delay in the release of  Issue 8.

I will share when I hear, Issue 8 is available.

The blue buds multiply!

I am sure that those little blue buds multiply as you stitch them :o)

I am looking forward to seeing what Leanne decides to put in the
middle of these blocks.

It is a little hard to get it all in a picture now.

With only two blocks left and some finishing touches I am looking forward to the next issue of Vignette next week.

Enjoy your weekend,
hugs, Sharon

Blocks 6 and 7

I have been trying to get a little stitching done in between a few busy weekends. I had appliqued the flowers on blocks 6 and 7 of the Vignette quilt and then it took quite a while to add all the embroidery.

Another finish - Block 16

I have managed to finish Block 16 on my Quilt

We are moving at the end of the week and
 I can't remember what box I packed blocks 10 and 11 in :)
Oh well, they will be waiting for me when we are in and unpacked.

Have a great week doing some thing you love.
Hugs, Sharon

Birds from blocks 13 and 16

I have been slowly stitching these little birds from the Vignette quilt. I suppose even a little stitching will help to get the quilt done!

The REAL quilt and a little progress

It was so inspiring to see Leanne's Vignette quilt at Urban stitching a few weeks ago. It really looked amazing.
I had been fiddling with fabrics for the centre of my quilt and finally put blocks 6 and 7 together and appliqued the edges. Might try and start on the applique today! I have been stitching the little bird blocks for the lower corner blocks too so am progressing......very slowly!

13 and 16 - done and dusted

My blog post about the blocks:  http://quiltingismything.wordpress.com/2012/07/21/vignette-in-stitches-block-13-16/

Gorgeous winter days lately although today looks like there will be some rain or at least a cloudy day.  Olympics is on the horizon and you know what that means.....lots of time stitching in front of the TV supporting our sportsmen and women!
Cheers

Sweet Dreams

I am still slowly stitching my quilt but I sometimes get sidetracked and do something else (as most of us do). I have just received my latest copy of Vignette and really must make the Sweet Dreams quilt for my great niece. I am wondering if any one can tell me if the quilt has been quilted all over the sweet dreams words. I have my quilts long arm quilted often with an all over pattern and this would mean the quilting went over the words???? I bought a bundle of woodland fabric so this is a great opportunity to use it.

Have to finish it now

Issue 7 of Vignette arrived in my hot little hands yesterday :o)

and as you can see from my progress picture above I haven't completed
the two centre blocks yet. I am still working on the Appliqué then the stitching
will be next.

Yesterday / last night, I traced up blocks 13 and 16

Not sure if you can see in the photo but I have written
the completed year as 2012!

I had better get to working some more on this project or I will be trying to change that 2 to a 3!

Nothing like a self imposed deadline to (hopefully) get me going again.

Have a lovely weekend,
hugs, Sharon

blocks sewn together

I had some time the other day so decided to sew my blocks together - at least into 2 rows.  I'm holding off on sewing them all together as I might do the quilting on my home machine, in which case I'd do it in 3 sections and then sew the sections together.

Shouldn't be long now before our next issue is out!  I figure it will be a good project to work on during the Olympics.

Blocks 8 and 12 done

I headed into the sewing room and finally, after much procrastination, put the patchwork border on this side of Vignette.

A little progress

Even though I'm s - l - o - w - l - y stitching that birdhouse I had the itch to actually make some progress. I pulled out all of the center blocks and got my applique fused down and the stitching traced. I feel like I accomplished something! Here is a picture of one half of the center.

A bit more prgress

Vignette Progress

Last night I managed to finish Blocks 8 and 12

Here is my progress so far

I can now move back onto bocks 10 and 11.

I have the hearts and orange petals appliqued on.
I now need to do the circles, leaves and then the stitching.

If you would like to visit my Blog I can be found here

Sunday, April 1, 2012

I thought it was about time I posted an update of my progress, which has been VERY slow of late. In fact non-existent. I am still working on Border Two but I hadn't done any of the stitchery for a while and was very disappointed when I picked up my work and found that all my stitchery tracings had faded to such an extent that I could no longer see them. I had used a Clover tracing pen. It has been fairly tricky to re-trace as I can no longer put the stitchery design underneath and see through because I have my cotton wadding beneath and the stitchery was already started. So, I have had to draw by eye using the remains of what was left from the original tracing as a guide. I am now using a fine pencil for my tracing, so that I do not have the same problem again.

However, once I had re-traced I was immediately inspired again and took the project on holiday with me. You can see that I have been sewing whilst on my sunbed and I also sewed on the aeroplane. I must say, stitchery makes a great travel project!

So, hopefully, now that I have revitalised my enthusiasm I will soon have the Border Two completed and move on to the next one. Yay!

Border 3 completed

How is everyone doing? I bet the Southern Hemisphere people are looking forward to some long winter afternoons doing some stitching - I know I am.

I finished my 3rd border section. Each one gets harder and harder to finish so I'm glad to only have one more to go.

I'm looking forward to
the time when I can sew the sections together and start quilting it. I'm thinking to do utility stitching with Finca Perle Cotton 8. Multiple colors in a free-form floral design of some sort? Then again.....with all the embroidery and wild colors, my quilting won't really show that much so would I be better off to do a simple overall machine quilted design? What are your thoughts on the quilting of the Vignette?

Hi from Italy

Hi everybody! I'm Letizia from Italy and I'm very glad to be part of your blog. I already know one or two of listed friends because we are involved in some stitching projects. I'm a former quilter but during this past year I was captured by this wonderful combination between stitches and patchwork. I love it, trust me! At the moment I'm working on different patchwork works (a baltimore), a Leanny House and some more...ufo.
I would like to post one or two of my finished works hoping to respect this blog roles. In addition....sorry for my english and thanks for your invitations.
Ciao Ciao
